The Ist week of the NFL’s preseason, where we all over react to how a group of backups looks playing on regional Television. Let us all overreact together after seeing the Panthers, minus their starters, beat the Bears, 23-13.

Starter Kyle Allen got 4 series and looked well, 7 of 11 for 79 yards, comprising 2 of 4 on third down. Touchdowns pass thrown by Grier to Elijah Holyfield in the third quarter. The offensive line gave up 3 sacks as well as quarterbacks were hurried 5 times.

Four times, The Panthers sacked Bears quarterbacks and held them under 200 net yards through 3 quarters. In pass defense there were lapses particularly against screens, in the 2nd quarter, that let Chicago score a touchdown soon before halftime.

Any team looking for a kicker may want to believe picking up Joey Slye. Rashad Ross, Terry Godwin and Jaydon Mickens all returned punts, with Godwin leading the way 2 for 79 yards that is highlighted by a 57-yarder.

It’s the first preseason game and no starters played in this. How much is there actually to critique? The risk of injury was minimized, by keeping the starters out,.
